The Rowers Premier side got out-classed on their home pitch by a strong, well-drilled Capilanos team Saturday, falling by a final score of 29-7.
The Caps frustrated the Rowers early on and kept it going all game. They played tight, pattern based rugby, countered very well off of kicks, made the most of the set pieces and ended up with a final score line that reflected their ability to finish.

FIrst year Rower Robert Spearing, shown here wrapping an opponent nice and low, earned the start at loose head prop Saturday.

The Rowers didn’t get beat for lack of effort, defending well and executing respectably in the sets. But the Prems seemed unable to find their handle in the attack pattern. With ball in hand, it looked like organized chaos, a quilt of strong individual efforts that weren’t stitched together in a way that allowed them to work together usefully.  For much of the game, the Caps D made the Rowers pattern look one phase deep.
The Rowers Prems scrummaged well on the day.

Substitute hooker Jason Carton scored the Rowers’ lone try in the 75th minute, and centre Matt Liszt led our sheet in tackles from the outside centre position.
The Rowers will no doubt work on their attack ahead next week’s road game against the Maralomas.
