Saturday November 11th 2017 was the first time that The Rowers ladies team had the opportunity to play against their strong opponent Westshore RFC. The preparation for this match had started the week before as we had never seen our opposing team play but knew they were going to come out with a tough run at us.
The match started at our home pitch of Brockton oval at 11:15, first starting with a moment of silence for those who lost their lives fighting for our country. The whistle blew and the kick was taken. Westshore came out strong with the first try a few minutes into the first half, waking up the rowers. At that point we knew this wasn’t going to be an easy game. These girls were tough. After the first try was scored thats when the rowers stepped up their game. Throughout the game the rowers side put down many hard hits and some very good rucks, but Westshore was dominant in the scrums. With and injury in the second half, rowers were down to no subs for the second, putting in good work with our fitness level and keeping pace. Laura Hunt came out with the hammer of the game (biggest hit) while defending our line with a smashing hit. Laura hunt only playing in her second rugby game as well.
Tries scored by rowers were;
Jos Wallace (with 2) and 2 conversions
Mikiela Nelson (with 2)
As we continue to learn this beautiful game we thank our opponents who help us continue to understand how things work and what to do.
Up next is Capilano Rugby club Saturday November 18th 11:15 at Capilano
