On Saturday February 2nd the Lady Rowers hit the pitch for their second game of the half against Scribes RFC in back to back games. Although the Rowers lost to Scribes the previous weekend, this game would be one for the books.

Pre game huddle featuring pep talk from Head Coach Hugh Wallace

The Rowers are yet to get a win this season but this was by far the best played game by the ladies in the last 2 seasons, although the score was not in their favor, it was a major change from last weekends footy match. Rowers received the first kick off and from there they would set the tone for the game. The ladies came up as a unit on defense and would lay out some major hits to remind the scribes they were not to be messed with. Last week the Scribes would dominate the Rowers with their speed on the outside but not this week. The Rowers contained the scribes in the mid field which stopped them from getting to the wing. When the ball did get to the wing the Rowers would keep them controlled and either full back Holly Patton or Right wing Robynne Shannon would clean up and stop the long break. Although first half the Rowers would concede a few more penalties than they would have liked, they would only be down 10-0 at half.

Full back Holly Patton doing what she does best, smashing people smaller than her, and Captain Chantalle Bracken going in for the steal.

Scribes would dominate in the scrums in last weeks game, but with a little switching around the Rowers would stand their ground and win most scrums throughout the game. With Ollie Roberts playing her first full game at second row and Chantalle Bracken debuting at 8 man, and Mhairianne McKeeve in control at scrum half the Rowers scrums made a complete 180. There were many broken lines, and 3 by prop stand out Sarah Hayes which almost resulted in 3 Rower tries but superb Scribes defense would hold the Rowers in.

The rowers ladies would be in possession of the ball majority of the game, and their phase play looked top notch, but again their defense just could not handle the scribes super speedy winger who scored almost all of the Scribes points this weekend. Each game from the Rowers seems to be better and better and now the ladies face a 2 week break due to a bye and a holiday, but look to come back better than ever.
