Saturday January 26th the Rowers Ladies squad hit the field after what seemed like a winter break that went on forever, taking on the Scribes on Rowers home pitch. It was a brisk much manageable morning in Vancouver as the Rowers strapped up to kick this half off. For the first time since the women’s side started up again the ladies got to play 12 aside and thanks to new recruits they had 4 subs! A HUUUUUGE day in the development of this program.

The Rowers started off with a bouncing kick off by Captain Chantalle Bracken, which ended up in Scribes 22m mark. When scribes retained the ball heavy hitter Holly Patton came in and did what she does best, set the precedent for how the tackles were going to look this game, big and forceful. With a few missed tackles in the first few phases Scribes speedy winger would make a huge run down into Rowers territory. Where she would be taken down in a try saving tackle by Robynne Shannon, but next phase the Scribes would finally pinch in past the rowers defense to score the first try.

Rowers looking strong in the rucks all day long

Throughout the game the Rowers would dominate in the middle of the pitch, but the Scribes would match with their speed on the wings and scored numerous times on the outside. Although down the ladies would not give up, chasing down wingers Robynne Shannon, Patton and even forward Ashley Osachuk put out the effort and would make try saving tackles throughout the game. Rucking would be a strong point for the ladies this game as thier strength is something that is unmatched in this league. Scribes would take many penalties in this game which would aid in the quick descison making for the rowers.

At the 22 minute mark Bracken would make a run that put the Rowers at the 1 meter mark and give a scoring oppertunity to be had. First year player Ashley Osachuk would take this oppertunity and score her first try as a Rower (which only meant one thing, a boot shoot later on). Rowers would only put up 5 points this game but it was very much a team improvement from last half
