On a sunny March day at Brockton, VRC Rugby’s top team straight up dominated Langley, scoring early and often to come away with a big home win.
The 1sts looked good on both sides of the ball, standing up to a Langley offence that certainly wasn’t kept to 10 points for a lack of effort. Great line speed and relentless effort afforded the hosts the opportunity to play most of the rugby, and make it all count.
Though we were unable to attend most of the game, a volunteer scorekeeper returned a sheet that outlined tries scored by loosehead prop Morgan Smith, 2nd row forward Graeme Young, flanker and Captain Michael Jordan, fly half Richie Thompson, centre back Connor Cleary, speedy winger Jack O’Sullivan, and Brett “Greyhound” Lucas. Second hand accounts also ascribe a try to occasional training attendee and substitute front row forward Jason Carton, but this could not be confirmed.
Centreback Brian Durham is listed as having hit SEVEN conversions and one penalty kick, and this reporter witnessed first hand a beautiful second half drop goal from fly half Richie Thompson, who humbly went out of his way to make sure that I had seen it just as I sat down to write about the game.
The Rowers 1sts are in action next March 17th away to Bayside RFC.

2nd Row Forward Kelly Anderson, pictured here mid-stiff-arm, had a standout game, including a showcase of a dummy-step move rarely available to a big man.

Captain Michael Jordan (red scrum cap) rucks over 2nd row forward Graeme Young. Both scored tries Saturday.

Scrum half Ray Bissonette, preparing to feed the Rowers’ 1sts scrum.

Oisin Daly, played a very physical game Saturday from the blind side wing position.
